A century ago, Firelord Sozin, ruler of the Fire Nation, began World War I to expand his nation’s empire. Young avatar Aang, scared of his new responsibilities, fled his home; He was forced into the ocean by a storm and engaged himself in suspended animation in an iceberg near the South Pole. Sozin, knowing that Avatar should be air nomad, committed genocide against air nomads and continued its world conquest. A hundred years later, Katara and Sokka, teenagers from the Southern Waters tribe, find and revive Aung.
In the first season, Aung travels with Katara and Sokka to the Northern Water Tribe to learn waterbending and be ready to defeat the fire nation. Prince Juco, the exiled son of the current firelord Ozai, along with his uncle Iroh, pursues him hoping to capture the avatar to restore his honor. Aung is also followed by Zhao, keen to win the side of Fire Nation Admiral Ojai. When Zhao’s navy attacks the Northern Waters tribe, Zhao kills the soul of the moon; Yu, the princess of the tribe, sacrifices her life to revive it and Ang leaves the enemy fleet.
